ALOHA!

SAY ALOHA TO OHANA’S 2022 PRESIDENTZach Hasco!!!! WE ARE ALL SO HAPPY FOR YOU AND CAN NOT WAIT TO SEE WHAT NEW AND INSPIRING CHANGES YOU WILL BRING!!

Ohana's mission is to provide Penn State students with an opportunity to raise money and lend support to Four Diamonds families who are part of the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON). Ohana members bring love, support, determination and strength to those children suffering from pediatric cancer and become a family away from home for them to turn to, creating memories that will last a lifetime for all involved.

Ohana was created in the spring of 2008 by 12 individuals hoping to create an outlet for students wishing to give back to their community and to learn a familiar face among 43,000. Inspired by the spirit of the Penn State Dance Marathon (THON) and the community it creates, these twelve were determined to create a "family" on which students could rely.

Ohana is a Hawaiian term that represents family. Most popularly established in the hit Disney movie, Lilo & Stitch, "Ohana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten." As the first independent fundraising organization to be recognized on University Park's campus, we, the members of Ohana, take pride in the service we contribute to a university that has provided so many opportunities to each of us. Ohana provides a social community that is dedicated to the kids and to THON.

In our first year, Ohana raised $85,823.24 and managed to make it into the top 3 independent organizations (not including Greek life.) In 2011, we raised over $229,000 and placed third out of all THON organizations including independent, special interest, and Greek organizations. While we are truly dedicated to fundraising for THON, our proudest moment was being paired with our Four Diamonds Family, The Goods, our first year. We now have four families: the Goods, the Wilsons, the Dawsons, and the Brysiaks - the heart of our organization lies in these families' smiles. We hope you will come along with us on our journey to fight for a cure for pediatric cancer!

For the Kids,

Ohana
